A Year with Miss Scuba UK
Wow what a year, we were asked to help and teach Miss Scuba UK which I was really excited about. There were Six finalists, four of which had never dived before, one diving instructor and a advanced diver. We all flew over to Deep Blue diving centre in Fuerteventura where all the finalists worked very hard, juggling diving, photoshoots, catwalk, presentations and we even found time to have a Project Awareness ocean clean !!
The four finalists who were none divers at the start of the week, all passed there SSI Open Water Course, both the instructor and the advanced diver had a great time diving some of the dive sites Deep Blue had to offer.
Alexandra Prior
Miss Scuba UK is a annual pageant with a difference, it is not solely a beauty or scuba diving competition but is a merging of the two disciplines to help raise awareness for marine conservation and celebrates the inner beauty of todays modern women.
Their aim is to get more women from the UK to participate in scuba diving. They believe that once they witness the beauty the of the underwater world they will want to help protect it.
Charity is always an important part of this competition, always working hard raising monies for various charities.
Through this unique competition they look for a beautiful women whom will be a ambassador to the scuba diving industry both in the UK and abroad, promoting safe diving practices, enjoying traveling and meeting people from around the world.
What a life changing experience for all the finalists and for me, but especially for Alexandra Prior the 2017 winner being crowned Miss Scuba UK over at Deep Blue in Fuerteventura. She now has a busy year ahead, starting with the dive show in Birmingham, then to Malaysia for the world finals, continuing with her diving education and diving experiences along with her charity work.
BUT MOST OF ALL HAVING FUN .
Continuing Education
Alexandra Prior Miss Scuba UK continuing her diving education on a sunny day at Capernwray Dive Centre. The water was a cosy 12 degrees luckily Alex was training for her Drysuit Speciality, so the water temperature wasn't a problem. Doing some of the skills on the training platform worked a treat. She is now ready for continuing diving in the UK waters a great achievement for a girl whom 6 weeks previous had never dived.
Happy Days
The main objective is to map and plan a wreck making a note of were the hazards are, while working in buddy pairs. The water temperature made this even more testing but everyone got on with the course and really enjoyed it.
Alex passed with flying colours and in the process gained her Speciality Diver which is a free SSI Training Recognition.
2018 Daisy Whetlor
What a life changing experience this will be for Daisy, the 2018 winner being crowned Miss Scuba UK over at Deep Blue in Fuerteventura. She now has a busy year ahead, starting with the dive show in Birmingham, then to Malaysia for the world finals, continuing with her diving education and diving experiences along with her charity work.
BUT MOST OF ALL HAVING FUN AND ALWAYS SMILING .
Daisy Whetlor
Daisy came to us as a diver already, and we soon found her to be a great asset to our team. Daisy's determination wanting to gain knowledge and new skills made her shine out, her joy for life was inspirational a true ambassador. It was no surprise to me that Daisy went on to win the Finals in Malaysia.
It's not always sunny, but we always have fun
Training days at Eight Acre and Capernwray are always fun and it was always a pleasure to have Daisy join us. Working so hard to be the best you can be, reaching your goals then making new ones.
Standing back and looking at your achievements taking time to be proud of yourself.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT ??
From charity events to scuba training, Daisy has put in 100% she has been a pleasure to train, teach and Ambassador for the sport and Global Environment !!!
Our year with Daisy Whetlor
Daisy worked incredibly hard over the year , the water was never too cold, too murky. She really got stuck in with everyone and made the best of UK diving. I am so proud of what Daisy achieved in her year as Miss Scuba International becoming an SSI Master Diver and a SSI Dive Guide .
Wow what a year it's been, it's been our pleasure it truly has!
